About Hail to the Guess★

Hail to the Guess is a daily puzzle about the presidents of the United States. Everyone gets the same mystery president each day, and you have six guesses to name them.

How it works

Each guess earns clues that compare your pick with the mystery president: their place in line, the year they took office, their age, birth state, party, prior role and years served. Three of those seven clues appear each day, and the mix changes, so no two days play the same. A new puzzle starts at midnight in your time zone.

Who makes it

Hail to the Guess is an independent game. It is not affiliated with the White House, the National Archives or any government agency.

Facts and portraits

Facts come from public historical records. If you spot a mistake, please email it and it will be fixed.

Portraits are public-domain images from Wikimedia Commons, many originally from the Library of Congress and the National Archives. Each result card credits the photographer or painter and links to the source.
